Justin Sun, the founder of Blockchain startup TRON, whose coin market cap this week was more than $ 4.5 billion, agreed to personally acquire BitTorrent, the long running file sharing service, for $140 million as originally reported by TechCrunch. As this recent article from the Daily Hodl notes there is still some question about how Tron's tech might be combined with BitTorrent's filesharing. TRONIX, Tron's digitial tradeable token, has moved higher in early trading following the announcement of Sun's purchase of BitTorrent.
WSJ's list of companies to watch has a good representation of startups focused on distributed ledger technology including Abra, Blockstream, Digital Asset Holdings, Brave and R3. This month, R3 denied that there was truth behind a story published in Fortune which said R3 was running low on money, according to press reports.
The investment represents the start of China's first blockchain based social network, according to the announcement,
